The western United States just has amazing light and what it does to the landscape is mesmerizing to any nature photographer. This series is about the light down in the slot canyons mostly in the Utah area. I can often step across the narrow slit in the earth on the surface in portions of a slot canyon. It is hot desert-like "up top" but down in the canyons it is cool, quiet and peacful - just keep an eye out for the occasional black widow in the recesses.

The trick is to time the adventure so that you are down in the canyon waiting for the light to position itself overhead - I wait for the moment when the canyon walls look like they are glowing with light. I clearly remember how fast my heart was beating the first time I ever saw these cathedral-like canyons. They have drawn me back time and again with their hypnotic beauty.
