Wendell Berry wrote, "The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only hope." That is what I feel and what I want to help preserve and protect whether I am wading chest deep in the swamp sloughs or hiking and camping.
Being outdoors connects you with the earth in a powerful way if you will just "tune in" rather than "tuning out." My purpose is to simply give pause for reflection on the sights we pass by or never make time to notice in our busy modern lives. I seek to create a visual image to encourage mental and spiritual flights of imagination, to share some element of nature that stirs the soul. I often see a landscape or nature scene, but I envision how I want it to look so that what I felt comes across to the viewer.
